Description

Ampio delle Mortelle is the most representative wine of the estate that the Marquises Antinori started centuries ago outside of Castiglion della Pescaia, in the heart of the Maremma. Positioned within a spectacular landscape area squeezed between green hills and a beautiful stretch of Tyrrhenian coast, the estate watches the sinuous flow of the Bruna river and the Diaccia Botrona Natural Reserve on the edge of the Grosseto plain. It is an area where the French grapes chosen by Antinori have found a particularly favorable teroir to achieve qualitatively excellent yields: only the best grapes of Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, manually selected in small boxes contribute to the creation of a wine that, although released for the first time ont in 2015, it has become a reference for the now vast supertuscan family.

Indeed interesting is the practice of vinifying the grapes separately and aging them independently up to 18 months before blending and resting in bottle, a practice that is more and morw adopted to best express the monovarietals as if they were wines by their own, leaving the winemaker the honor (and the burden) of defining the final cuvée.

Tasting the Ampio is an experience of sure pleasure: dark ruby consistent in the glass, it inevitably opens wide on the nose with hints of black forest fruit alternated to fragrant flowers such as lavender, peppery spices and licorice, then tobacco, chocolate and a slightly mentholated finish. In the mouth it is velvety, seductive, with soft tannins, well-managed acidity and an already present softness, such as to perfectly balance the sip and anticipate a long and persistent finish.

Yet another excellence by Antinori, certainly to be discovered, preferably to be owned.
