Rosso di Mezzo is the new project that comes to life in the 2018 vintage by Federico Graziani, presently a leading actor in the viticulture of the North side of Mt. Etna thanks to modern, extreme, experimental and decidedly dynamic wines that are enriching the increasingly heterogeneous and important kaleidoscope of Etna winemaking.
Obtained with the best grapes from even centenarians vines located in the Feudo di Mezzo area in the municipality of Passopisciaro at about 600 meters above sea level, it is produced for the first time in 2018 in lieu of Profumo di Vulcano.
The vines insist on soils where the stratification of different lava flows attributable to well-defined and different historical periods brings complexity and heterogeneity thanks to the alternation of sands, ashes, pumices and lapilli, a mix that guarantees fertility to the soil and that finds in the climate of the North side a precious ally for growing healthy grapes rich in aromatic content.
Transparent ruby red color, in the best Etnean tradition, it has a fruity nose, with currant and blueberry in the forefront, followed by notes of blood orange, evident hints of aromatic herbs and caper leaf, with a note of flint at the end. In the mouth it flows straight and direct, with light tannins and a great freshness that leave the mouth clean, before a finish with a herbaceous aftertaste of medium persistence. Expectations towards Federico Graziani and his productions are always very high, as well as towards an Etnean viticulture that does not stop raising the bar by focusing on native vines, quality, modern and often extreme vinifications and continuing to prove how interesting this territory is, where great wines such as Rosso di Mezzo 2018 are now the masters.
