Ca' del Bosco

Ca' del Bosco

Lombardy

Even in the case of the birth of Ca ‘del Bosco, the famous saying “women have an edge” can be used. In fact, Anna Maria Clementi in Zanella in 1964, years of great ferment in Franciacorta, decided to buy a small house in the hills with two hectares of land near Erbusco immersed in a chestnut forest. Figures like Antonio Gandossi were instrumental in the history of the Franciacorta company. In 1968 he began to plant the first vineyards with a density of one hundred plants per hectare; he will manage the plantations until 2011. It will take 12 years from the purchase to experience the thrill of the first harvest and for the decision to produce in order the pinot di Franciacorta brut, zero dosage and the rose ‘. They will be released on the market in 1978. In 1979 André Dubois joined the winery with his wisdom, alongside the young Maurizio Zanella, the first Franciacorta Pinot Millesimato was born. Today Maurizio is the president and owner of Ca ‘del Bosco.
Since 1990 the company has had an important exploit with the production of various labels including the top of the range Cuvee Annamaria Clementi, in honor and memory of the founding mother.
The extraordinary growth of the company is due not only to a far-sighted Maurizio Zanella, but also to the great research in technological innovation alongside traditional methods to obtain products of superior quality. Every detail is decisive and different details create a result.
Another decisive year for this company is 2007 in which the cuvee prestige was born, a product of thirty years of experience, continuous evolution and great ambition. Today it is recognizable to everyone thanks to the orange paper that protects it from direct light.
Ca ‘del Bosco is not only classic method sparkling wine, but also still red and white wines and again in 2007 the “terre di Franciacorta bianco and” terre di Franciacorta rosso “become” curtefranca bianco and curtefranca rosso “reaching high quality peaks also in still types.
In the 10s of the third millennium Annamaria Clementi rose is the new product that joins the white version (55% cherdonnay, 25% pinot bianco and 20% pinot noir) and enters the Olympus of Ca ‘del bosco wines.
Innovation, naturalness and quality that aspire to the creation of a noble wine that enhances the vine and terroir passes from the creation in 2012 of the vintage line called “vintage collection”.
“It is nature that decides. It is she who shows the way to transform wine into art. But it is man, with his knowledge, who supports the preceding. The Ca ‘del Bosco method is unmatched. A personal, utopian and perhaps crazy idea of the Franciacorta method. ” Cit.

Annamaria Clementi is Maurizio Zanella’s mother, and the company’s top bubbly – from the finest selection from the most exclusive vineyards – is dedicated to her. It is the culmination of all that Ca’ del Bosco exemplifies.

The 101 months spent on the lees give this wine broad complexity, from the evolved notes to its beautiful structure, not to mention its intense pleasantness.

At the first sight it shines with an intense gold and is simply beautiful. The bubbles are fine and persistent.

The nose confirms the expected complexity with a bouquet of intense aromas: first the toasted bread crust, followed by notes of liquorice, dried fruit, delicate almond, honey, chamomile and, at the very end, delicate herbaceous and fresh nuances.

The sip is full and structured and the consistency of the complexity between the nose and mouth is unique and very precise. The freshness and flavour give pleasantness, aided by strong but elegant perlage.

The undosed Pinot Noir from Ca’ del Bosco is the product that best interprets the area where it is produced, as the Pinot Noir has the ability to translate every nuance of the place where it is grown into flavour. We are in Iseo, in the Belvedere estate, at 466 m above sea level on the hills that delimit the lake to the south. Here the Pinot Noir is austere, with tension and great rigour. In addition, its being no-dosage allows you to taste a wine that expresses its personality without masks, in a clear and linear way.

The wine exhibits very fine and persistent perlage. The colour is golden with pearly reflections.

The nose reminds us of the long ageing on the lees – 8-and-a-half years – with a very rich olfactory profile that includes intense tropical fruit, citrus, honey, aromatic herbs, spices and dried and toasted fruit against a mineral and slightly smoky background.

The palate is pervaded by the structure and fullness of the sip. A shoulder of freshness gives pleasantness to a wine that, given its complexity, could have played on more difficult notes and instead, also helped by the non-dosage, remains a wine of great drinkability.

In the early 1980s there was a long discussion about creating a Franciacorta obtained with slow fermentation in the bottle, produced only from white grapes and with a relatively low pressure, at 4.5 atmospheres. In 1990 this Franciacorta was given the name Satèn, in order to evoke the simplicity and sensitive and pure memory of the word ‘silk’ (as in the softness and consistency of fabric). The bubble, in fact, is very fine and silky, as well as having beautiful persistence. To these characteristics the Satèn by Ca’ del Bosco adds great finesse and elegance; a structured wine with a range of complex and intriguing aromas.

2015, the result of a hot vintage, offers the nose a set of aromas reminiscent of custard, apple pie, light citrus nuances, delicate floral notes and vanilla in the finish.

The sip is creamy and enveloping and the very fine bubbles pleasantly tease the palate, while the buttery notes and exotic fruits, such as pineapple, endow it with a velvety softness. Everything is very well balanced by a pleasant freshness, which reminds us that we are still drinking a Franciacorta.

The 2010 vintage was not exactly straightforward, as the month of July was very rainy. Those who, like Ca’ del Bosco, selected grapes on the plant and treated them with great respect in the cellar, still managed to create wines of great importance, playing on the fresh and crunchy notes that give great pleasure.

  • This is the first wine to have its creator’s signature on the label – that of Maurizio Zanella, producer and president of Ca’ del Bosco. During a renaissance of Italian winemaking, this Bordeaux blend based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc contributes to heightening the quality of the wines produced: carefully selected grapes that are vinified separately and aged in small oak barrels. The result is a vigorous wine that hints at granite and has great longevity.

It is the perfect synthesis of the history of this winery and exemplifies its values of excellence, as well as the vocation of the Franciacorta area to produce great reds for ageing.

In the glass it is a deep ruby-red, with an intense mass of colour.

The bouquet expresses aromas of small berries and light notes of blueberry and blackberry preserves. Full fruity notes, accompanied by balsamic notes and hints of dark spices, and finally slightly herbaceous notes to underline the presence of the two Cabernets. A wine with a balanced, deep taste with nuances linked to chocolate and tobacco that enhance its complexity even further. Pleasant and well-integrated tannic texture. Freshness, in conclusion, that sparks the desire to take another sip.

Tasting several vintages allows us to also grasp, in addition to the characteristics of each specific harvest, the evolution of this Sebino red over time: in its youth it gives us fresher and crisp notes, but over time its complexity and austerity grow.

The year 2007 was a decisive one for Ca’ del Bosco, as it was the year that the Cuvée Prestige was born; a product of thirty years’ worth of experience, continuous evolution and great ambition. It is definitely the crown jewel of the Ca’ del Bosco wines, recognisable to all thanks to the orange paper that protects it from direct light.

The complexity of correctly assembling this cuvée every year, in order to preserve its organoleptic consistency, can be deduced from the variety of grapes needed: 96 different Chardonnay vines with an average age of 27 years, 3 parcels of Pinot Bianco of about 21 years of age and 17 Pinot Noir vines of 19 years of age, on average. The harvest is manual, fermentation takes place in steel tanks, with 7 months of ageing. The grapes are then blended to reserve wines, about 20-30%; this is followed by ageing on the lees for 25 months and a dosage of about 4 g/l of sugar at the time of disgorgement.

What are the distinctive traits of the Cuvée Prestige? Freshness, pleasantness and linear drinkability.

This is a chameleon of a product that can be paired with different types of dishes, from beef carpaccio to fish tartare or slightly more structured dishes, such as risotto or grilled fish main courses.

Of a straw-yellow colour, it has fine and delicate perlage. The nose is marked by notes of white flowers, yellow-fleshed, crunchy fruit, herbaceous features indicating youth and, at the end, fine notes of patisserie. Its freshness and good minerality make the sip very pleasant. Balanced, as the wine leaves a good roundness on the finish. The bubble teases our palate and entices us to have another sip.

The Jeroboam format (3L) lends itself to celebrations and conviviality, or, with its complimentary stylish leather bag, it makes the ideal companion for a long weekend…
