Arnaldo Caprai

Arnarldo Caprai is a real oenological reference in Montefalco. Successful textile entrepreneur but with the dream of changing his life, he founded the company in 1971, sensing the great potential of a vine, then little known and underestimated because of its sharp acidity and its impetuous tannin: Sagrantino. It will be his son Marco, starting from 1988, who will involve great personalities and professionals in the sector to make the most of this native vine and make the Caprai winery the flagship and undisputed protagonist of his land.
Today the Arnaldo Caprai winery and the Sagrantino di Montefalco are practically synonymous. The great popularity achieved throughout the world has prompted many producers to follow the example of this important production reality and Sagrantino has fully entered the Olympus of the great reds of Italy.
All Caprai wines are born in a modern and functional underground cellar, completely renovated in 1997. There are steel tanks for fermentation and many oak barrels for refinement: 2,000 French barriques from the largest and most well-known producers across the Alps and 15 large Slavonian oak barrels, an area equally famous for the production of barrels in Croatia. The goal of this work is the same as thirty years ago: to bet on the great richness of Montefalco’s tradition, recovering it in a modern key. Technology, expertise, experimentation and innovation combine together to create powerful, full-bodied and long-lived reds, with great personality. The numerous awards obtained make this winery a true symbol of excellence of the Umbrian territory, an indispensable brand in the discovery of a vine capable of thrilling like few others, that Sagrantino brought to very high quality levels.
