Tenuta di Biserno
Tenuta di Biserno is the product of the tireless genius of Lodovico Antinori who, in 2001, not satisfied with having created the two masterpieces of Ornellaia and Masseto, chose to try his hand at a new venture. Sensing the potential for the Bordeaux grapes in an area that is little known from the point of view of winemaking – Bibbona – he decided not to incorporate the plots within Ornellaia but to create a sub-area of Bolgheri from scratch.
Tenuta di Biserno revolves around a single large vineyard (Bellaria), mainly planted with Cabernet Franc and located along a border: the southern part belongs to Bolgheri and the northern part to Biserno.
This is an area particularly suited to the production of fine red wines, thanks to alluvial limestone soil that is rich in calcium carbonate and supported by a perfect microclimate.
This estate is flanked by a second, Campo di Sasso, consisting of three vineyards planted with Syrah.
The oenological consultant is Michel Rolland, with whom the Antinori already collaborated for Ornellaia. The result are wines, such as Biserno and Lodovico, that express the sum of brothers Lodovico and Piero Antinori’s thoughts on wine.
