Château Margaux

Great excellence of the Bordeaux region, especially the Médoc, Château Margaux has an ancient history behind it that crosses the wine business since 1500, when Pierre de Lestonnac buys the estate and focuses everything on the production of wine.
In 1700 the domaine already extended on the current surface: 262 hectares, of which a third dedicated to the vineyard. In this period begins a moment of great splendor and continuous rise from the point of view of the quality and prestige of the wines, which will be crowned with the title Premiere Grand Cru Classé in the official classification of 1855.

The other fundamental date in the life of Château Margaux is 1977, when André Mentzelopoulos acquires the entire property, taking it to very high peaks: talented, visionary, passionate, the Greek magnate performs an extraordinary Renaissance work in the vineyard and in the cellar, making use of figures such as the oenologist Emile Peynaud and renovating the neo-Palladian castle built in the nineteenth century by the Marquis Bertrand Duat.

The Château Margaux vineyard celebrates the black grape of the area, Cabernet Sauvignon, with – to a lesser extent – Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, which give life to mythical wines, extremely complex yet elegant and very fine.

Today at the helm of the domaine is Corinne Mentzelopoulos, daughter of Andrè and his heir also in spirit and temperament.
