Rocca di Frassinello

From the joint venture between Castellare di Castellina and Domaines Barons de Rothschild-Château Lafite comes a winery that is the harmonious synthesis of the great viticulture traditions of Italy and France. Inaugurated in 2007, Rocca di Frassinello stands on the hills of Giuncarico – in the heart of the Maremma, between Bolgheri and Montalcino – in a particularly favourable position for growing grapes thanks to a constant sea breeze that provides humidity and keeps the climate mild throughout the seasons.
The estate covers 500 hectares (about 83 hectares of vineyards) with alternating woods, crops and vineyards, which favours biodiversity and protects environmental sustainability.
The Sangioveto vineyards (the Maremma name of Sangiovese), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Vermentino give life to five red wines, one white and one rosé, which are also highly appreciated internationally. The iconic Baffonero stands out above all others. Born with the 2007 vintage, it was soon considered one of the greatest Merlots in the world.
The cellar, designed by Renzo Piano to be a hymn to lightness and a contemporary classic, is the physical manifestation of Rocca di Frassinello’s cosmopolitan outlook.
The first and only cellar designed by the great architect, the structure is a discreet presence with a low visual impact, which develops around the slender red tower that has in recent years become a landmark for the whole area between Giuncarico and Gavorrano.
