Descrizione

It is the most famous wine of Castellare di Castellina, a red from Sangiovese (85%) and Malvasia Nera (15%), which matures for 24 months in small oak barrels and an equal number of months in the bottle. Thick ruby, nose of blood orange, violet petals, clove, blackberry, blueberry, spice and hints of rhubarb. The palate is incredibly long, escalating between tannic texture, softness and savory closure.

It was Luigi Veronelli who suggested to owner Paolo Panerai, back in 1977, to name the wine after the church of San Niccolò, which stands right next to the vineyard. The addition of the word “I sodi” comes shortly after, indicating the structure and texture of the soil. Più volte nella Top 100 di Wine Spectator, è tra i rossi da provare almeno una volta nella vita. Iconic
