Founded in 1811 by Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel known as the “Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe” for his travels to India, Château Cos d’Estournel stands as a symbol of boldness and innovation in Bordeaux winemaking. Its exotic architecture, inspired by Eastern temples, and the exceptional quality of its wines have earned it international acclaim.
The Cos d’Estournel vineyard spans 91 hectares in the northern Médoc, near the Gironde estuary. This terroir benefits from a cool, breezy climate ideal for producing outstanding dry Bordeaux Blanc. The clay-limestone gravel soils impart a distinctive minerality to the wine.
Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2024 is a blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Sémillon. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately by plot, with fermentation in concrete vats to preserve freshness and aromatic expression. The wine is aged for nine months in French oak barrels, which lends it complexity and structure.
The 2024 vintage displays a bright straw-yellow colour. On the nose, it offers a refined bouquet of white flowers, exotic fruit, and mineral notes. On the palate, it is elegant and fresh, with a well-balanced structure and a long, lingering finish. The blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon brings harmony and depth.
Compared to other Bordeaux Blancs, Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2024 stands out for its finesse, minerality, and ageing potential. Careful vinification and deep respect for the terroir allow the wine to fully express the unique character of its origin.
Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2024 En Primeur OWC1 offers a rare opportunity for fine wine enthusiasts. With its elegance, freshness, and cellar-worthy profile, it is poised to become a gem in the collections of connoisseurs and collectors alike.
The 2024 Cos d’Estournel Blanc is one of the best editions of this wine I can remember tasting. The balance here is simply superb.
