Descrizione

Château Suduiraut’s 2010 Sauternes is an expression of an excellent vintage that, together with 2009, is believed to live up to the historic 1989-1990 duo.

This Premier Cru comes from a selection of the estate’s most prestigious terroirs, located on the edge of the Sauternes terroir and in an ideal position for the spread of noble rot in the spring to summer period.

A symbol of this winery’s production for centuries now, Sauternes comes from a careful blending of batches vinified in Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc in ever-changing percentages (90 percent and 10 percent, respectively, for the 2010 vintage). The vines, insistent on soils where sand mixes with pebbles and gravel to cover a thick layer of clay, are planted with high densities per hectare so as to generate competition for nutrients by pushing the roots deeper and deeper, bringing an important mineral endowment to the grapes.

The 2010 harvest was characterized by only partly regular weather patterns in the spring period, with temperatures often below average that delayed flowering. Summer then came on strong, with little rainfall and high temperatures, so as to accelerate ripening and cancel the vegetative delay. The harvest therefore began on September 22 and ended on November 9, with multiple passes through the vineyard to achieve the desired concentration of sugars in the berries attacked by noble rot.

Once in the winery, the small boxes with the grapes are treated with the utmost care within long and delicate winemaking processes between steel and then wood, where the wine goes on to age for 20 months in half first-pass barrels before bottling with a residual sugar of 145 gr/l.

On tasting, the 2010 Château Suduiraut reveals incredible complexity and beauty, with its golden-yellow guise already laced with decisive amber highlights, brilliant and decidedly consistent. The nose of this Sauternes reveals a complex and structured bouquet, touching on candied notes, acacia honey, dehydrated apricot, then yellow plum, saffron, almond and then wood, imbued in turn with hints reminiscent of cocoa, vanilla or ginger. Opulence and richness emerge in the mouth, its plumpness filling the mouth without overdoing it, with a sublime dosage of residual sugars before a very long, full finish.

Château Suduiraut 2010 is a wine that impresses with its beauty and complexity, such as to enrich any table or to embellish a meditation that is certainly far sweeter and more sumptuous than expected.
