Descrizione

The “Pònkler” Pinot Noir represents the pinnacle of Franz Haas’s production and is the result of a promise made to his friend and renowned wine critic Francesco Arrigoni. After visiting the “Pònkler” vineyard in Aldino, Arrigoni suggested vinifying the grapes from this unique parcel separately. The name “Pònkler” comes from the meadow of the same name, mentioned in an old local song that refers to “the Lagrein from the Pònkler of Aldino,” giving the wine a deep connection to tradition and territory.

This cru, located at 750 meters above sea level and facing south to southwest, sits on soils composed mainly of eroded porphyry—a volcanic substrate that imparts minerality and complexity to the wine. The vines, planted in 2007 using the Guyot system, come from French clones selected for their adaptability to high altitudes. The vineyard has a high planting density of around 10,000 vines per hectare and extremely low yields (46–48 quintals per hectare), ensuring superior grape quality.

Fermentation takes place in open-top tanks, with frequent pump-overs and punch-downs to encourage the extraction of color and aromas. About 20–25% of the grapes are left whole during fermentation to help stabilize color. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is transferred to barriques for malolactic fermentation and ages there for 15 months, followed by at least 24 months of bottle aging before release.

“Pònkler” presents a brilliant garnet red color. On the nose, it offers an intense and layered bouquet of ripe wild berries, star anise, and leather. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, with evolving tannins, a harmonious structure, and a long, persistent finish.
