Surprising what happens in Mercatale Valdarno, a very small plot of land, certainly not supported by important DOC, where two wineries, located on the two opposite sides of a hill, manage to produce unique wines, both in term of organoleptic characteristics and international recognition.
One of these is, precisely, Podere Il Carnasciale (the other one is Petrolo), which, under the guidance of the Rogosky family, decided over thirty years ago to invest in Caberlot, a natural cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, originally from the Euganean hills.
With its first harvest in 1988, the Caberlot becomes a registered trademark and therefore an exclusive production of this winery, so much so that it becomes much more than a disciplinary in itself: a unique vine, grown and vinified only in the sandy soils around the farm and critically acclaimed.
Four parcels, whose grapes are vinified separately and organically, give rise to approximately 3,000 magnums, which, as underlined on the label, is the standard format of the house. Followed by about 2,000 “half magnums” and a few hundred large formats.
Unique and uncompromising by vocation, therefore, Caberlot surprises the nose with a fleshy fruit that forms the basis for an elegant bouquet of tertiary scents, such as licorice and finanche. In the mouth the balsamic and spicy aromas are the masters, supported by an alcohol content and an exuberant tannic texture in unison. Clear, enveloping, voluptuous finish.
