In the year of Quintodecimo’s 20th birthday, its founder and national oenology reference Prof. Luigi Moio gives fans of great wines from Campania a cuvée that brings together the trilogy of white grape varieties most representative of the Irpinian territory.
Not a mere summation of the characteristics and peculiarities of Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino and Falanghina but a blend whose character, harmony and aging potential go far beyond the strict laws of mathematics.
Against the backdrop of intensive studies and tests on the interaction between soils and typical indigenous grapes Quintodecimo has scientifically weighed the contribution of each individual grape variety to the final blend to best translate the preparation work into the bottle, where Greco, Fiano and Falanghina find a perfect symbiotic balance.
Coming from parcels that already contribute their grapes to Quintodecimo’s trilogy of white monovarietals, respectively Giallo d’Arles (Greco), Exultet (Fiano) and Via del Campo (Falanghina), grown between Tufo Lapio and Mirabella Eclano between 380 and 600 meters above sea level, the grapes grow on clay soils that rest on limestone bases or, in some cases, on a mixture of ash and lapilli of volcanic origin.
Paying extreme attention to practices in the vineyard with much respect for the soil, the microclimate, the plant and the biodiversity of the place so as to limit the role of man and amplify the role of nature, Quintodecimo confirms its exacting production philosophy in the winery as well, where separate vinifications are made partly in barrique and partly in steel and then aged eight months on the lees, six of which are after the monovarietal blend and then two years in the bottle before release to the public.
Harmony and balance are the terms that distinguish the Grande Cuvée, where each grape variety brings distinctive characteristics in full complementarity: body, power and acidity are brought as a dowry by the Greco, characteristics balanced by delicate fruit, lightness and tension brought by the Falanghina and enriched by the complexity, breadth and elegance of the Fiano.
Amazing the final result, as is to be expected from that extraordinary interpreter of Campania’s winemaking tradition that is the Quintodecimo winery.
