Descrizione

Art becoming wine or wine becoming art? Both perspectives are appropriate for those who want to approach one of Quintodecimo’s “three whites,” surely the most particular and complex of the Avellino triad.

An unprecedented name given to the Greco di Tufo vineyard, inspired by the famous and unique shade of yellow that made Vincent Van Gogh’s Arlesian period and the masterpieces that resulted from it legendary. As many as 12 hectares have been planted since 2001 in Contrada Santa Lucia in Tufo, with southwest exposure on clay-limestone soils at an elevation of 450 meters.

A difficult vine Greco di Tufo, both to grow and to treat in the cellar: while it is characterized by a long vegetative cycle, a large content of coloring matter, a compact bunch and a thin skin, subject to easy damage or attacks, in the cellar it produces a rich and acidic must, ochre in color (hence Greco is said to be a “red dressed in white”) that only wise and expert hands have been able to treat avoiding clarification interventions.

In keeping with Luigi Moio’s style of making white wines, Giallo d’Arles is only partly aged in new barriques, while the winery prefers the use of steel to keep the wine’s characteristics unchanged and contact with the fine lees for greater naturalness and personality of the finished product.

Impressively, in the glass you are faced with a red dressed in white, with powerful yet refined structure, a surprising bouquet along with a fresh, mineral taste.

Although already at an early age it manages to unleash its full potential, like a marathon runner the Giallo d’Arles will complete its life after having come a long way in time, closing the circle with nature and the deep respect nurtured by Luigi Moio, a winemaker in Mirabella Eclano.
