Descrizione

Pagus Camilla was born in Bolgheri from the intuition of Poggio al Tesoro, an estate that has learned to interpret the sea, the light, and the breath of the Mediterranean scrub. Its name evokes the ancient pagus, the Roman agricultural village, and recalls the small oasis of Fossa Camilla, which borders the vineyards of Le Sondraie. It is there that Vermentino finds a clear and expressive voice, nourished by salty breezes and radiant days, with the 2016 vintage remembered for its regular ripening, perfectly healthy grapes, and cool nights that preserved fragrance.

The land reveals itself in its details. Sands and silts streaked with clay sustain dense vineyards, well exposed to the westerly winds. In the cellar, every gesture is measured. Fermentation begins after a brief contact with the skins, then the wine rests between stainless steel and terracotta amphorae, with bâtonnage on fine lees until summer. The terracotta lends breath and texture without heaviness, while the steel preserves precision and verticality.

In the glass, the aroma is luminous: citrus peel, dune herbs, white flowers, and a marine nuance that brings freshness. The palate is tense and juicy, with a savory length, a clean mid-palate, and a crisp, persistent finish. It does not seek effect, but rather balance — between acidic energy and tactile softness — a rare stylistic signature among Bolgheri’s white wines.

The meticulous selection at Le Sondraie, the judicious use of amphorae, and the extended time on lees build depth without losing drive. The result is an authoritative Vermentino, immediately seductive yet capable of graceful evolution — ideal for those who love Mediterranean whites with definition and longevity.

Pagus Camilla 2016 is the bright side of Bolgheri: a wine that speaks softly yet travels far, meant for connoisseurs who seek precision, restraint, and elegance — qualities certified by the technical choices and the terroir that give it life.
