Allegrini - Poggio al Tesoro

From Valpolicella to Montalcino and then to Bolgheri, the entrepreneurial vision of the Allegrini family ranges between the most important territories of Italian viticulture, keep growing with the Allegrini Estates project.
Of the two Tuscan estates, Poggio al Tesoro plays a key role in the Bolgheri area.
Acquired and launched into stable management since 2003, the estate is made up of several vineyards squeezed between the Tuscan Tyrrhenian coast and the hills to the East. Started from an idea and push of Walter Allegrini, a great admirer of Bolgheri where he identified an unexpressed potential in some specific plots, the estate now consists of 70 hectares planted mainly with allochthonous grapes (Cabenet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc above all, but also Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Viognier) with a balance of Vermentino.
There are four main vineyards on the estate: Via Bolgherese, Le Grottine, Le Sondraie and Valle di Cerbaia, insistent on mixed and often changing in composition soils even a few hundred meters away, where sand, gravel, clay continuously alternate and where it’s easy to encounter mineral pockets of iron and magnesium playing an important role in cultivation.
With a West/South-West exposure, the vineyards grow between 25 and 60 meters above sea level in an ideal microclimate for vine cultivation, with constant solar exposure, moderate and below the national average rainfalls and a continuous ventilation favored by the key role played by the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea.
To make the most of the favorable natural conditions, Poggio al Tesoro pays utmost attention to the choice of the most suitable soils to maximize the quality of the yields of the individual vineyards, dedicating resources to keep them fresh and ventilated or using grassing as a natural solution for a better balance between humidity and temperatures.
In the cellar, classic practices are implemented in line with the style of the territory, by means of controlled fermentations in stainless steel, prolonged macerations for red wines followed by new barrique ageing.
Poggio al Tesoro today plays a key role in the Bolgheri amphitheater knowing how to offer wines that best enhance the grape growing area and demonstrating, with the apex reached by the Dedicated to Walter, Cabernet Franc in purity, to know how to distinguish among many excellent producers with a memorable wine widely appreciated by the most demanding international critics.
