Descrizione

I Sodi di San Niccolò is the most famous wine of Castellare di Castellina, produced from the most important cru of the winery.

It was Luigi Veronelli who suggested to the owner Paolo Panerai, in 1977, to name the wine as the church of San Niccolò, which stands right next to the vineyard. The addition of the word “I sodi” comes shortly after, to indicate the hard and rigid structure and consistency of the soil, difficult to work.

Located on an amphitheater of hills facing south-west, I Sodi di San Niccolò is an experimental vineyard planted in collaboration with the Universities of Milan and Florence and the Institute of San Michele all’Adige for constant research into the best clones of grapes. Very low yields per hectare, to the advantage of remarkable quality.

A red wine from mostly Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera, which matures for 24 to 30 months in small oak barrels, 50% new and another 12 months in the bottle.

Intense ruby color on the palate, with a high aromatic concentration on the nose with ripe red fruit, notes of jam, and spicy hints of vanilla and licorice. In the mouth dense and elegant texture, the tannins are sweet and silky. Very pleasant and long-lasting sip.

Several times in the Wine Spectator Top 100, it is among the reds to try at least once in your life. Iconic.
